Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I reviewed the English and Math practice test sections that he completed for homework. When that was completed, we worked through a Reading practice test section together."
"The student wanted to focus on the Science section of the ACT, as he has recently received his ACT scores and received a 26 in Science, which was lower than he wanted. To that end, I had him take a timed practice test of some of the Science passages. He ended up completing 5 passages in 20 minutes, an impressive rate, and answered 23/29 questions correctly. Scored proportionally, that would translate to at least a 28 scaled score, suggesting that part of his difficulty on the actual test may be a difference between study session practice and actual test conditions. I suggested that from now on, he try practicing using the bubble sheet included in the prep book in order to better simulate the actual process he will be doing while taking the test. We then spent the remainder of the session beginning our discussion of the Literature SAT Subject Test he will be taking in two weeks, including an overview of the test and some exercises meant to help students understand wordplay and comparison in classic literature. We will continue this discussion in our next session."
"We covered strategies for the ACT science section. We worked on interpreting graphs, opposing viewpoints, and extrapolating."
