Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered the ideal gas law: PV = nRT. We discussed the various units and their conversions. We worked through several sheets worth of problems and made minor corrections to calculations. We came up with possible scenarios that could be tested. We also did problems involving molecular mass and density. In addition, we discussed significant digits. We discussed STP (standard temperature and pressure) as well as SATP. We discussed honors courses in general, and work loads. She is a very bright student who is fully capable of excelling in chemistry."
"Today we reviewed titration problems, acid/base reactions, and concepts of titrations, as well as various Gas Law problems. Towards the end, the student was comfortable with all types of problems, and asked a few questions about her titration lab coming up (which she is very excited about). I wish her the best of luck on her lab and final exam, and am available if she needs another session or has any other questions."
"We went over the student's science project, which involved writing a paper on the integumentary system and editing it."
"More review for Thursday exam. I tried to tidy up my notes so that the student may use them more effectively for review. We did problems for molarity, kinetics, and Hess' Law. I stressed the importance of unit balances and stoichiometry."
"We finished chapter 16 last time, and focused solely on chapter 17. There was a lot of information to take in, and the whole session was spent taking notes and reading the material."
"We covered a chapter and HW from the student's book on alcohols and phenols. We also discussed how you know to use primary alcohols vs secondary, and we went over Grignard reagents and reactions. We discussed how she can prepare for her quiz Monday by making a table of reactions and studying those. We also discussed understanding how to break down retrosynthesis problems and how to put together several reactions to get a more complex synthesis."
