"Session Seven Tutoring Review During the student's seventh session we focused on Tutoring Goal(s) 1, 3, 5, and 6 which involved problem solving, reinforcing studying algebra, developing problem solving techniques, building her confidence, and reviewing her homework assignments. Below is a synopsis of the topics we reviewed: We reviewed the basic functions and their graphs as well as the properties of the graphs. She remembered some of the material, but showed signs that continued review is necessary for her to retain all of the information. We reviewed and practiced how to solve word problems and how to create equations from the information given. We practiced solving linear equations and multivariable equations. We advanced ahead of the class by beginning to solve piecewise functions. We began graphing piecewise functions. Notes: She picked up on the new material quickly, and I am excited that she is ahead of her class. She seemed to believe piecewise functions would be difficult, but after practice she was comfortable with solving the equations and graphing the solutions. There was some lingering hesitation with inclusion and non-inclusion notation, and we will go over these concepts more in the future to reinforce them."
"We went over the student's last statistics test, covering linear regression and interpretations of the least-squares regression line, residuals, and total variance."
"We went over critical points, extreme values, and physics examples from last time, as well as going over inflection points and concavity. This review was very helpful and we did more examples and he seemed to understand all the topics. Next time, we should review inflection points and concavity. Also, he was good at anti-derivatives and we will cover this more as we get further into the chapter."
"The student and I solved problems related to two sample hypothesis testing, as well as the F test (ANOVA). We calculated test statistics, p-values, and solved equations to find the rejection region. We also went through the ANOVA table to show the relationship between the different numbers (i.e. DF, SS, MS)."
"We reviewed the student's homework assignment and her final assignment, which covered using SPSS to answer hypotheses for T-tests, ANOVA, correlation, and Chi square tests. She knew much of the material already, and really just needed help interpreting the SPSS output that was part of the assignment. She worked through both assignments relatively easily and typed the results in APA format."
"We reviewed chi square test, hypothesis test design, and probability questions from previous final exams."
