Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"ISEE preparation lessons on analogies and root word vocabulary lessons. The student did well with choosing the correct answer for analogies, and we discussed the importance of knowing the relationship between the words to help determine the correct answer."
"Today, I was excited to learn that the student had learned new verbs since I had seen her last. She also learned to conjugate two very important verbs: Tener and Ser. First, the student and I reviewed her homework. Her homework focused on the pronouns: yo, tu, el/ella (etc.) She had to put direct and indirect pronouns in the proper context of a sentence. Then we made some flash-cards of the different pronouns: as well as flash-cards for Tener and Ser. We took turns drawing two flash-cards and conjugating the verb. The student did really well with this. Finally, I asked the student questions from her conversation bank. "
"We reviewed polynomials very quickly and then started back on chapter 8 to start reviewing where the course started. We covered lines, rays and how to find the perimeter. She has a hard time with long division using denominators, so we did numerous practice problems. We also covered a few simple interest questions. She is now able to convert fractions into decimals and feels much more confident with division. "
"The student finished a section of an SAT math test, and when he was finished, we covered the ones that he missed or did not answer. I have assigned him to redo his homework that he did for his last session in his workbook."
"The student and I worked on percentages and how to solve them using both decimals and fractions. She did very well with the material and seemed to do much better with long division and multi-digit multiplication than she has in the past. We also reviewed methods for checking her work. The session went very well"
"I gathered some background information about the student's needs, her major, and her different strengths and weaknesses. In addition, I completed several passages with her that included topics such as phase changes, Newton's Laws and Forces, oxidative phosphorylation, the Krebs cycle, and half of one verbal passage. Overall, while she stated that she was strong in the physical science section, her performance today indicated that she will need more support in this area. She did better in the biology topics, which is understandable given that her degree is in the biological sciences."
