Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today with the student we continued our work on her class. The primary source reading (philosophy from the Middle Ages) is very challenging for her, and the teacher has given reading questions to help digest it that we went through together. The test is this weekend, and she told me that in the last exam there was a significant amount of material that was based on these comprehension questions, so I am trying to make sure that she understands them as we go along. Once I rephrase a lot of the topics she can easily grasp them, but the old English style of writing and wordiness of the religious philosophy texts really challenge her."
"We focused on descriptive essays today and the student did wonderfully! She has little trouble writing descriptive essays so I was happy to learn that she is not struggling in that area. She is absorbing the tips I am giving her and applying them very well. I see her writing improving."
"The student is on the right track. He took his first practice test this week, so most of our session focused on going over the math sections of the test. We agreed he would take another practice test before our next meeting. Though we will continue to focus on math, we will begin to review some of the verbal problems that have been giving the student issues."
"Today was the first time I tutored the student and the meeting went very well. He is very hard working and very motivated, which makes me optimistic for the future. We reviewed for his midterm, and will do the same tomorrow. I was very impressed with his ability to comprehend the material."
"We spent the first half of our session going over the reading comprehension section. We read a few together and discussed how best to answer the questions. I also had her do one entirely by herself and timed her so she could get a feel for how much time she could afford to dedicate to each set of questions. For our second hour, we worked some more on percentages and how to use our math skills to increase and decrease numbers to find their relative percentages."
"We finished typing up the student's captions and facts about a famous Chinese building. We then spent the remaining time reviewing the vocabulary words sent out by his teacher. We wrote context sentences and also practiced writing the characters."
