Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we reviewed Chapter 13 of the student's textbook, as she has a test on Chapters 12 and 13 Friday. She needs to be able to understand how all of these events build upon themselves and lead to Civil War. I will be sending her some practice multiple choice questions relevant to the time period to help her prepare for her test. There were no concerns for this session."
"The student needed some help with studying and comprehension strategies for AP US History and AP Environmental Science. We focused mainly on history today, so I could give the student tips on reading efficiently, especially finding the author's argument to understand when and why the author cites different facts, and focusing on introductions and topic sentences to get the big picture."
"We went over the rest of the material for chapters 17-19. The student had a test the next day, so the session was spent covering material he wasn't clear on and reviewing it all with quizzes. He informed me that he got a 100% on the vocabulary that we studied last session and a 97% on the test that he took two weeks ago. He is showing real progress."
"Student was given direction on how to proceed with research and brainstorming for her upcoming essay. She is to take notes on the chapter to answer the question prompt and decide which three additional primary sources she will use for the essay. Student will also start her outline of the essay by next session."
"The student and I went over timed essay writing. We did some practice essays and focused on formulating a thesis. I also recommended he focus more on transitions, making sure that his paragraphs include a topic sentence that emphasizes the thesis. Overall, I think his understanding of how to write a thesis has improved."
"This is our second review session this week, and we started the session reviewing his package for the first two periods, which covered some ancient history leading through the classical period. After we had completed the review package for those two periods, we reviewed a bit of period 5, which talks about the age of exploration and trade for European powers."
