Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did extremely well on the ACT Reading section I asked him to practice; the time-management strategy we discussed last time appears to have paid off. Today we went over the question types and general tips for the ACT English section as well as quickly glancing at the tips for the Science section. I asked him to complete a practice English section for our next meeting."
"The student and I continued working through his ISEE prep book. We discussed subtraction of decimals and fractions, as well as long division (focusing on accuracy). We discussed suggestions given by the book on how to allocate time per section. He was assigned several math problems for homework, which will be reviewed the next time we meet."
"I gave the student a quiz over what we had learned last week; How to convert a fraction to a decimal, and how to compare among different fractions and decimals. He did very well on his own and he told me he is slightly ahead of other kids in his math class. For about an hour, we went over the arithmetic review from the exam prep book. I will quiz him next Monday to make sure he's got it. Also, we learned how to tell which number an integer is divisible by. For the last 30 minutes, we worked on his pre-algebra practice homework together. I gave him a set of problems for the weekend homework."
"Covered the basics of approaching flaw questions, strengthen/weaken questions, and inference questions. Went over how to map arguments symbolically, including sufficient and necessary conditions, as well as converse, inverse, and contrapositive statements. Assigned argument drills from the TPR workbook as homework. Wrote up a flaw question drill and emailed it to her."
"We spent the entire session working on improving the student's score on the grammar section of the test. We went over usage rules and he wrote practice sentences. He also completed practice exercises."
