Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we finished up the math section and went over some vocabulary. The student understands basic concepts and knows the equations for the most part. She needs to work on applying her knowledge to more complicated and trick questions, because she has the ability to work them."
"In this session, the student and I worked through the last of her kinetics problems. I also answered her remaining questions about the concepts that she had before her exam. We discussed order of reaction, how to use the time-dependent rate equation, and how to find the rate equation for a reaction. The student seemed to have a good understanding of each of these topics."
"After a few week vacation break, the student and I resumed our review for the Chemistry SAT II. As discussed, she had read several chapters and done the practice problems at the end of the chapters. We went over her questions from this work. Together, we completed lots of practice problems from a practice test. The student thinks about the problems very clearly and is very bright and intuitive in her responses. I continued to encourage her and believe in her. We will meet once or twice a week before the test."
"Continued working on the student's chapter questions. She is doing an excellent job remembering what was read during previous sessions and incorporating it with new information. Summarizing is still somewhat difficult for her, but we consistently review summarizing with every chapter and every assignment."
"The student and I continued to work on the math section. She's a little discouraged that she's not seeing as much progress as quickly as she'd like. I'm hopeful that she'll see progress with continued practice as she gets familiar with the kinds of questions she'll be asked. She does well on very straightforward questions, so her fundamentals are sound."
"Today's lesson began with a discussion of the various ways in which to ask questions on French. Then the student read a short passage to work on pronunciation, and I asked her questions about the passage to start working on conversation. I then asked her to formulate some questions for me. We concluded the hour with her looking at some photos and describing what she saw in the photos. I had suggested awhile ago that she work with a language app every day to improve her accent and also for practicing French. She told me today that she has been using it. As mentioned previously, she is very motivated and obviously intelligent, so I definitely see improvement."
