Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student 1 and I started working with her level C, online books, and were able to get through the entire level C-- she is now working on level D. She is doing well with her sight words, so I taught her some bigger words this week, and some words with weird/unusual rules. She is still unsure when it comes to placing some vowel sounds-- especially the difference between the short "e" and "a" sounds, so we reviewed words that show that distinction. Student 2 worked with me on fractions and division this week. She's does a wonderful job of showing her work, but has to be careful to read the question slowly, and map it out in her mind, before starting the math. We wrote some word problems together, and before working them out, decided whether they were addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, or some combination of those."
"Student is showing improvement in her ability to pronounce irregular words, though she is still more often than not, adhering to regular phonetic pronunciations when sounding out new words. I was happy to see that she was able to correctly sound out new/unfamiliar vocabulary using phonetics. I plan to focus more on silent letters, like the "k" in "knife" and "gh"/"tion" sounds."
"We went over the sight words. We read short rhyming words. She wrote short "u" sentences. She did a worksheet filling in the missing vowel. We read a short "e" story. She did well and answered all the comprehension questions correctly. She completed sentences with short "o" words. She wrote sentences I dictated."
"The student and I mixed in her homework with additional math and spelling exercises. She was really focused for most of the session. Overall, a productive session!"
"Today, we worked on some practice tests for her upcoming test and reviewed inferences, main ideas, and tonal issues with the author."
"We continued to work on AP writing and the creation of a thesis for the summer writing assignment. The assigned homework is to complete the assignment before returning to school. The student is making good progress."
