Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student continued to work on the times tables. He completed 1 sheet with 60 times table problems in 8 minutes with all correct. Also he worked on number sensibility in long division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction with the use of a number line. Then we reviewed the places on either side of the decimal point on numbers and reducing fractions."
"The student and I covered the 4-step approach that I teach for tackling the reading test. We practiced throughout the chapter and completed two practice reading passages. She was about 2 minutes per passage over the recommended time when allowed to time herself. She did much better with time reminders. Next session we will do several practice passages as well as begin the science section."
"We practiced quantitative comparison questions, including giving a second look at questions missed twice in previous practice tests. We have seen drastic improvement in performance of the student from the first administration of the exam to this session observed in the quantitative analysis section. I provided explanations to the student for problems and reinforced strategies for approaching the quantitative comparison questions. We reviewed roots and vocabulary words and discuss applications of using roots to determine a word's meaning using examples."
"We began the session by briefly reviewing our basic division facts. We then began division using two digit numbers. The student was excited to finally begin "Long Division". She did well, but had a bit of difficulty remembering each step in the process. This improved as the lesson continued. We will move on to three-digit numbers as soon as she masters the process."
"The student and I worked on the short Social Studies reading and writing assignment she had on map scales. She did a great job formulating answers on her own and retained the information well. Afterwards, we had enough time to review a chapter she is working on in class about the Old Kingdom in ancient Egypt."
"We discussed the literature review of the student's paper and that it needs a significant refocusing. I am going to perform some comments on the student's paper on her analysis and conclusion section which looks fairly well completed. Finally we will meet on Tuesday to go over the changes and she will re-work and refocus the literature review. This takes her a step closer to a well-fitted paper."
