Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the last part of the ISEE Math section. Topics that we covered was how to get the mean, median, and mode. I also went over order of operations when it pertained to adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing exponents. After that we went over flash cards and vocabulary."
"The student and I went through Julius Caesar and found evidence to demonstrate that Pride, an association of honor and death, and being easily mislead were all distinct characteristics of Brutus' personality which both made him a hero and added to his tragic downfall. This week he will begin writing a paper using this evidence and then we will begin editing this paper together."
"Both students will be starting a new school year so with both students I reviewed skills that will be helpful at the beginning of the year. We reviewed types of angles and angle relationships. We also discussed the angle addition postulate and how to use it to solve for angle measures and variables. They were also able to identify different angles. Then we reviewed adding and subtracting fractions. He also remembered how to multiply and divide fractions by using a reciprocal. We also reviewed long division and percentages."
"We went over general strategies for science and reading. We talked about typical question formats and how to navigate them more efficiently. She seems to have a good handle on how to approach them now, and I'm confident she'll do much better in these areas. She's applying what she learned to test 2 so we can go over them on Monday and see her progress."
"The student and I worked on the math and reading comprehension sections today. Her accuracy, especially on math, is improving and her main issue is going to be completing the sections in time. This April test will be a good diagnostic to see how she does. She will complete one timed section in each subject area this week before the test to prepare her for Saturday."
"The student has his final speaking exam next week, so we spent most of our time refining the answers we had already created in previous sessions. We also went over a couple of workbook homework assignments using the new vocabulary his teacher has provided. It's very rewarding to see the improvements the student has made in his reading comprehension."
