Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked today on solving systems of equations using the substitution method. Progress was made on understanding what a system of equations actually means and what finding a solution to such problems tells us. The student is doing well at the arithmetic, but we still need to work on working through problems in a step-by-step manner, in order to ensure no mistakes. The pace of the sessions is picking up, and he is taking to the material quite well."
"The student and I went over more advanced topics in chapter 3 about doing equations with several variable terms. He is ahead of schedule for his class now, and his last test went well."
"Worked on her review sheet for her final. Also did written homework 9.2, which included completing the square and solving quadratic equations."
"We continued discussing transformations of trigonometric functions. The student has a test on Thursday, so we spent most of our time reviewing his first problem set. We went over the parent functions of sin, cosine, and tangent. We talked about their inverse and multiplicative inverse. We also discussed their range and domains. He has a strong command over the material and feels very confident going into the test. I anticipate that he will get a very high grade."
"The student started a new chapter in class. We began the session by clearing up a few concepts regarding vector notation and parametric equations. We then went on to review his problem set that involved converting rectangular coordinates to polar coordinates."
"Today we covered mostly logarithms and exponentials. The student wasn't particularly struggling with anything, however there was clarification on what defines a natural logarithm and logarithm rules. Additionally, we looked at an assigned project involving cost optimization, and talked about how to approach it. I encouraged him to attempt practice problems later in the day after the specific answers were forgotten to ensure memory retention."
