Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we studied simple harmonic motion for the student's exam this Friday. Specifically, we looked at how pendulums, springs, and circular motion can all be reduced to a harmonic oscillator. Then, we derived the characteristic frequency for a spring and the characteristic period for a pendulum. I also showed the relationships between velocity, angular frequency, frequency, and period. After the derivations, we solved 9 problems from my textbook."
"We worked through several problems regarding electrostatics, including the Coulomb force and electric fields."
"The student and I spent the session going over waves. We went through all of the sections in his textbook pertaining to waves and discussed the concepts. He asked a number of good questions and was very active in trying to clarify the topics he wasn't fully understanding. Overall, we covered a lot of terminology, including wave velocity and wavelength, reflection and transmission, refraction, standing waves, resonance, and the mathematical description of waves. We ended the session by briefly working on two math homework problems related to functions."
"Student 1 and I worked on number sequences and basic arithmetic. Tomorrow, Student 2 and I are going to go over his homework and have a more guided session."
"Concepts : We covered basic information about the student's assignment and how we can work on finishing it on time. We also discussed specific information about how to schedule and plan a project. - The student started to get a clearer picture about what needs to be done and what steps are required to finish the assignment. - I listened to his concerns and what is required, and I advised him on what is necessary. We then started working on the assignment."
"The student and I covered aspects of basic kinematics. Our focus was on speed, velocity, and acceleration. He had a bit of difficulty defining the kinematic terms and the difference between speed and velocity and how acceleration fits in. We used graphs, calculations, and word problems to improve his understanding. His math skills are fine, but he still needs some work on the concepts. Overall, he made great headway today!"
