Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We read a text from school textbook and reviewed another one. We reviewed prepositions, verb forms, and exercises on direct and indirect object pronouns."
"Today the student and I finished preparing for his Spanish final tomorrow. We went over the preterite conjugations of regular verbs, the preterite conjugations of car and gar verbs, preterite conjugations of the irregular verbs hacer, dar, and ir, the personal a, direct object pronouns, indirect object pronouns, and gustar and similar verbs. I also e-mailed him an extra worksheet on these concepts to help him practice conjugating verbs one last time before his final. He had some difficulty understanding how to conjugate gustar and similar verbs, as they are not conjugated according to the direct object like most verbs are. After some practice, he was able to understand this concept. Apart from this concept, he said everything else we covered was pretty easy and that he understood it."
"Today was "Chinese only" day, so I gave the students a written test. We basically went through almost all the vocabulary we've learned so far. I put the words in 10 long sentences in Chinese, and the students had to write every word down as they heard it. It was very challenging, but they did just fine. After the dictation test, we played a Chinese chess game, and it got pretty intense as the students got better and better. Good job!"
"The student and I reviewed Pinyin concepts, learned new words, and learned the concept of radicals and how they change the meaning of a word. Her pronunciation is still very good, and she is getting much better at identifying the different intonations in pitch, which is great. She is also improving at using Pinyin to spell out the pronunciation of words. Overall, our session was fun and productive, and she is very engaged in her learning."
"We went over material for an upcoming exam. Specifically, we focused on reviewing a previous midterm and completed some workbook exercises. Also, I worked with him on some oral conversational practice as that will be a part of his exam next week."
"We finished the student's project on Changsha today by coming up with a list of three pros and three cons for the city. Then we constructed five sentences based on her vocabulary list, which dealt with transportation and flying. She also shared with me the good news that she has a B+ (almost an A-) in her class! She is very excited and I am so proud of her."
