Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished up the student's review packet and started some tougher problems from the book (about logarithmic functions)."
"We covered factoring, completing the square, multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting fractions with exponents, and additional methods of solving quadratic equations."
"Today was my first session with the student. We covered a section of Algebra involving factoring. The student is very meticulous, which serves him well as a math student. First, I asked him to describe how to factor in his own words. I could tell right away that the student understood the material and concepts. Next, I gave him several problems to complete. The student was quick to complete the easier problems correctly. I stressed the fact that there are certain clues to look for when solving a complicated factoring problem, such as grouping or difference of squares. As the session went on, the student got better and better at recognizing these clues and solving the problems. By the end of the session he was challenging me to explain why problems can be solved a certain way. Again, I could tell that he has a very good understanding of math. I believe I set a good foundation, and he is very capable of practicing the information we reviewed during the session and performing well on a quiz or exam."
"The student and I went over how to factor and graph inequalities. We paid special attention to the different notations possible for writing his answers."
"The student said that she had a midterm coming up in chapters 6 through 9. I asked her what specific questions she had and we worked on problems for those. She did very well."
"We prepared for the student's test on parabolas. He knew the material well, but needs to be careful about making small mistakes especially with minus/negative signs."
