Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our third session, we began with the student's Personal Statement and concluded with the Work & Activities Paper. For both, we reviewed the personal anecdotes that he had added. Our primary edits had to do with sentence structure and diction, which we used to integrate these new passages for a seamless read. Our next task was to read through both pieces in order to ensure that there wasn't too much of an overlap in terms of content. Since one paper is an overview of why he wants to attend medical school and the other contains more specific accounts of how he has spent the last several years, there were certain areas in both pieces that required some redistribution of content. This reallocation of information had as much to do with my advice as with his personal preference, and he did a wonderful job of explaining and determining what information had priority (i.e. belonged in the Personal Statement) and what information was secondary (i.e. belonged in the Work & Activities paper). We concluded our session by agreeing that he would finish distributing information as necessary for a final review in a few days' time."
"The student requested help with college essay applications. We started this week by identifying the needs for a college essay and his strengths for each essay."
"The student and I worked on her supplemental essays on the innovative and entrepreneurship program that the university offers. We also worked on an essay regarding influential people and events in her life."
