Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"On Wednesday's session, the student and I focused on accentuation and preterite types. Revisiting Spanish accentuation rules helped the student make sense on why, when, and how the "tilde" works. We also worked on free-writing once again; this time covering her family life. The student is supposed to write a minimum of 200 words for her college exam. We are easily breaking 300!"
"The student had a test coming up and wanted me to quiz him on Spanish words that might be used on the test. He was eager to review what he knew. As we worked, he became more confident in his knowledge. I think he will do fine on his test."
"Today was my first session with the students. We started with introductions and they decided that what they wanted most out of tutoring was to practice conversation. Both students consider themselves to be beginners, although both had taken some high school Spanish. Both have studied French. I helped structure the session by asking short, simple questions (topics included: introductions, Where do you live? What did you eat for Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner? etc.) and alternated equally between them. I helped them to answer the questions, conjugate verb tenses and develop a running list of vocabulary. Both students preferred to take notes during the session, so that they could study the vocabulary and phrases that we learned during the week. They have a fantastic attitude and are very enthusiastic about learning Spanish. I suggested that they practice and study the vocabulary we learned today. The session was a win for all, as after I checked in with them at the end, both students said that they thoroughly enjoyed the session and think that it is the right fit. We decided at the end of the session that in each session we will introduce a mini 30 minute lesson on a topic we will decide on the week before. The first student requested that next week we review the uses of the verbs to have "tener" and to be "ser/estar". The second student would like to review -er verb conjugations. I will have a lesson for them next week and then the remainder of the session will be planned to involve conversation and continued vocabulary building."
