Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"With the first student we went over multiplying by powers of ten. With the second student we went over scientific notation. Both boys demonstrated that they were able to correctly perform the exercises."
"We worked on the homework the student had from school, then did the practice in the textbook for the sections they were doing in class."
"This session, the student made me extremely proud! She showed great progress and finished her homework within two hours. She showed up earlier than expected, showed me her homework she worked on with me and was very pleased of the help I gave her. She grasped the concept of local linearity in one take and showed her ability to calculate the tangent plane of a surface. We followed up by calculating the gradients of the of a plane and directional derivatives of a given vector. I focused on helping her translate word problems to the topic of the subject. For instance, in terms of gradients if she is asked to determine the maximum rate of ascending the hill she knows to calculate the maximum gradient."
"Yesterday, the student and I met to review what he has learned since our last session and to prepare him for an upcoming test. He worked through his current homework assignment involving creating equations based on word problems and solving systems of equations. He struggled at first to interpret the problem and be able to write it as an expression and equation, but after focusing on units and determining the end goal of the problem, he started being able to interpret them faster. By the end, he was able to solve them all on his own. We were reviewing for his test next week and will have another session next Monday in order to prepare him further."
"In the session today we went over the basics of degrees, radians, and the unit circle. The student was fairly comfortable with converting between degrees and radians, but was having a little trouble on graphing various radian values. After going through a few examples and breaking it down step by step he caught on very quickly. It was helpful for him to put in the landmarks on the unit circle. Overall, he seems to have more confidence in his math abilities and seems more comfortable with the information in general. He is always willing to put in the work that needs to be done to make sure that he understands the topic."
"We reviewed some of the student's previous homework problems to prepare her for upcoming exam on Thursday. She has an impressive holistic understanding of the unit circle, trig relations, and graphing trig functions. She is definitely motivated to do well in this class as well as comprehend the content even though she isn't interested in a STEM field. Based off of our first session I feel she will do well on this exam and the remainder of the course if she remains diligent with the work."
