"The student was able to take a practice test so I know what sections he needs the most help on. I feel that by going through problems I am helping to make sure he understands as much of the information as possible."
"Today we focused on pacing. I had the student work through two sections (one verbal and one math) of a practice PSAT, keeping her from spending too long on any one question. She performed better on the math section. On Thursday, we will continue our pacing practice, working on improving her speed without losing accuracy."
"I covered triangles, probability, and other topics that were most important for the client's exam. Some material took repetition because the client required more explanation. The client is more comfortable with the topics."
"We first worked on the student's math homework, which was creating scatter plots and predicting trends in the data (positive, negative, or no relationship). She was able to finish the homework successfully with only a bit of coaching and extra explanation from me. By the end, I think she understood the material very well. We then continued working on her science summary (over plants). She reads each section, then summarizes the content, and I quiz her throughout to make sure she understands everything she is reading and is retaining the information. She seems to be doing well, and I can see her enthusiasm for the material increasing a lot."
"I reviewed properties of exponents with the first student. She is doing very well. We also went over entering expressions in the calculator and proper use of parentheses when doing so. She seemed to have the idea down. I reviewed solving word problems with the second student. He was a little rusty with using the graphic organizer since we last went over it last Sunday. He did well after we completed a couple examples. We also went over how to multiply large numbers by 10 (or multiples of 10). He caught on quickly and was very excited to learn how."
"I met with the student to work on his geometry homework. He seems to struggle with learning the new concepts and keeping up with the pacing of his class. He is bright though and has memorization strategies. He also has basic math skills and problem solving skills. He just needs some extra help to understand some of the higher level geometry concepts."
"The student is rapidly improving on the multiple choice section of the writing portion. and we have begun to work in more detail on the verbal as well."
"The main topic covered during the session was the geometry and trigonometry questions found on the SAT Math sections. The session began with reviewing her practice sections and pinpointing areas where we need to strengthen her skills. From there we focused on the content and solving of geometry based questions."
"Today we worked on ACT Reading. The student had already learned some of the strategies I was teaching him over the summer, but hadn't practiced them much, so we did some practice passages and talked about them together. He is taking the ACT next Saturday so we will not meet again until the following week."
"The student worked on finding a book in the library. She also practiced her six and seven multiplication facts. I asked her to take her flashcards to practice them over the weekend. We also read and I asked her comprehension questions. I also asked her to read 10 pages and write a summary on what she reads."
"We covered the Claisen condensation reactions and focused on the similarities and the differences between the other condensation reactions. We then worked on synthesis problems involving all of the condensation reactions"
"We covered some basic topics and some basic definitions like rational, integer, whole and irrational numbers. We also did two practice problem from ISEE Mid-Level packet. I assigned some homework for him until next week."
