Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was doing the solving of systems of equations. Generally solving for 3 variables using either 2 or 3 equations. Also how to set up matrices and augmented matrices and how to manipulate them to solve a system of equations. Including Gaussian and row echelon form."
"The student has an exam for Thursday. He will be tested on hyperbolas and everything associated with it. Also the exam is cumulative. His homework is to create reference sheets with all the possible equations he will be tested on."
"The student and I practiced logarithms today, with an emphasis on common logarithms. She got the general concepts fine, but she needed extra explanation to get the hang of twists on the concepts like solving equations with logarithms. By the end of the session, though, she was showing improvement."
"Today, we covered the introduction of conics, focusing on parabolas. Another tutoring session was scheduled for later this week in order to apply the concepts in practice problems prior to the student's test at the end of this week."
"We spent this session going over the chapter review questions. We got through half of the review problems. The student's exam is on Friday."
"The student and I used our session to review concepts from her class. The bulk of our time was spent on trigonometry: proving and converting double-angle formulas, transforming rectangular coordinates to polar coordinates, and solving trigonometric equations. On each topic, I solved a sample problem, and she solved a similar one successfully. We also focused on understanding and underlying concept of trigonometry: the three trigonometric ratios and their inverses. I was very glad to see her show a greater mastery of the unit circle. For our next session, I asked her to study the double-angle and half-angle formulas."
