Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For our first session, I asked the student general mathematics questions to get an idea of where she stood in math. I wanted to see how knowledgeable she was so I could determine a good starting point and to get an understanding of how she learns. At the end of our session I determined that she would be ready for college-level algebra. After our session I sent her a few suggestions for text books and study guides so we can have something by which to go for our remaining sessions."
"We went over mirrors to begin with, then stoichiometry and circuits. For mirrors, we talked about plane mirrors, concave, and convex. We defined several terms, including optic axis, center of curvature, focal point, parallel ray, focal ray, and chief ray. We worked a couple problems relating to these topics. We reviewed how to do stoichiometry in general chemistry. We finished the session with circuits, talking about current, resistance, capacitance, voltage, and Kirchhoff's laws."
"Today the student and I reviewed his vocabulary, picked a new book to begin reading ("Divergent"), and then studied over his ACT practice test results. He did REMARKABLY well on the English portion of the ACT, scoring a 25!"
"Today the student prepared for his upcoming quiz. We covered in-depth gel electrophoresis. He learned how northern blots worked and how to interpret a northern blot gel. We went on to practice interpreting gels to check for plasmid construction success. Lastly, we briefly covered the mechanisms of polymerase chain reactions and their importance for research."
"This session, the student had received feedback from her teacher. I had to help the student locate sources to use for her project. After some time, I located two other sources for her to use. We reconfigured her bibliography and printed the rest of the sources out."
"We spent two hours on logic games and logical reasoning, getting through the linear/ grouping games and justifying the conclusion LR questions. The student is really improving with his critical thinking process and accuracy. Next session we are going to focus on LR/ LG again. He should particularly practice weaken questions and grouping logic games questions!"
