Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was our second session of "proof bootcamp". In addition to the proofs, I also brought some review material for her test on Monday (ratios and proportions). She did very well on the ratios and proportions and has improved greatly in her proof comprehension. I will continue to bring proofs to each session so that she does not forget to keep up with them."
"We went over special triangles and trig ratios. He had a little trouble with special triangles initially because he wasn't grasping symbolic math, and I think it is something we will need to work on in the future. Other than that he grasps the concepts well now."
"We worked on finding the area and circumference of a circle, given the radius or diameter. It required multiplication of decimal numbers, and great multiplication skills. We worked on a few related word problems."
"During this session, the student worked on her homework for her new unit on proofs. This homework required her to prove that two triangles were congruent in order to prove that their corresponding parts were congruent. We also went over methods of proving congruency such as angle-angle-side, side-side-side, and side-angle-side. Once we reviewed these, she was much more successful with her proofs."
"The student and I worked on circles. She just began circles so we reviewed basic circle postulates and equations and did some practice problems. She felt comfortable with the material. She also reported back that she got an A+ on her previous exam!"
"The student worked on homework that covered right angle trigonometry. We reviewed these concepts and then used the sine, cosine and tangent ratios as well. We also had time to look ahead at the laws of cosine and sine and the student worked on several problems from the next homework."
