"The student and I went over his HW paragraph. We spent the rest of the time analyzing Anton Chekhov's "The Lottery Ticket." I had him make a thesis about the main character, pick 3 quotes to support it, and then explain them."
"Today we outlined a paper for the student. We went over the various aspects of the Gulf Oil Spill in 2010. We covered the events that lead up to the disaster, the ecological aspects, and the remediation. She needs to refer to the outline in order to write the paper, and can contact me for proofreading whenever it is finished. "
"Today the student learned about viruses. We learned about capsids and envelopes and how they are shed when entering a host. He also explored virus reproduction in both animal cells and bacteria cells. We covered in-depth the nature of lytic and lysogenic life cycles of bacteriophages. Lastly we started to explore the nature of retroviruses and their impact on public health today."
"Today, the student and I will work through some more practice questions, focusing only upon those that he can correctly answer and deciding which questions to skip during the day of the test. I'll also review some stress-reduction strategies for the test."
"The first student spent the session working with interactive programs to review for her integers math test. Student 2 and I worked to review for his science vocabulary and worked on his spelling words for this week."
"At this first session with this student, I started out by asking her about her goals in learning French, and then looking at the book she had gotten prior to meeting with me. Using that book, we went over basics of the French language: subject pronouns, articles, and -er verbs in the present tense, and the verb "etre" (to be). She picked up the concepts we discussed quickly, and seemed confident the ideas. She was less confident with speaking and pronunciation, but we discussed several resources she could use to practice. In addition to YouTube, which she is already using, I also recommended that she use the language app to practice vocabulary, and hear words as they are spoken. I also recommended a more straightforward French book for us to use in future sessions. Before our next meeting, I asked her review the chapter that we went through today, and to complete the corresponding exercises in the accompanying workbook."
