Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We finished editing and revising an essay that the student was working on for his English course. We also talked a bit about goals for our sessions and what else he'd like to work on in the future. We will continue to focus on his schoolwork, while doing some grammar and sentence structure work, as well."
"The student and I discussed parts of an essay (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) and the purpose of each section. We also discussed how to include connecting/transition sentences, main ideas, and details in an essay. Additionally, we reviewed estimating money amounts, calculating sales tax, and worked out several multi-step word problems. She worked hard overall. We plan to meet again next Thursday, 10/18."
"The student took a 15 question biology assessment so that I could gauge where she was. After she completed the assessment we talked about general biology topics like the cell, its parts, organelles, and transport processes. I gave her an assignment of drawing and making a note sheet of the cell based on what we discussed during the session."
"The student wanted to brainstorm again, and I think it really helps her to know beforehand what she is going to say. As her vocabulary grows, this will definitely get easier. By the end of the session, she had a great letter!"
"We worked on converting mixed numbers to improper fractions, using the two concepts with word problems, and touched on multiplying fractions. We worked on science for her quiz on Thursday as well, reviewing air masses, fronts, and cyclones."
"Today, the student and I had a session that was only 1 hour long. We worked on, and completed the first set of old Java Bats that he had missed, and we made it a fair way into the middle of the second set as well, which is good progress considering that he only ever had 2 sets to make up to begin with. Honestly, he hardly needed my help in solving them, and he certainly could have navigated the assignment alone. We scheduled another session on Thursday (also an hour long), in which we will finish the Java Bats and work on precalculus when we finish with those."
