Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Per the student's request, we reviewed portions of her teacher's review packet for her big test tomorrow. We specifically focused on finding decimal patterns, rounding to the tenths and hundredths places, and equivalent fractions. She is well-versed in everything. We went over many problems within these three topics to try to increase her knowledge and boost her confidence."
"Today, the student worked on adding 4 to a number, counting forward and backward by 1s, counting forward and backward by 2s, and doubles. He also worked on adding 2 digit numbers in his workbook."
"The student and I reviewed multiplication of multi-digit numbers, which she has gotten very good at. I brought fraction and multiplication word problems for her to do because she has struggled with explaining her work using correct vocabulary, and she did very well with it today. I left her with dividing decimal practice because, although she does well with it, she doesn't like it. She whizzed through most of the work that she has struggled with in the past. I have full confidence that she will ace the state exams!"
"I met with the student to complete math and reading homework. I asked comprehension questions throughout the story. She completed homework that addressed multiplication and division. Then, I used dice to practice comparing values of expanded form of numbers. I talked to the family about asking multiple comprehension questions to help the student with deeper comprehension and recall of stories. I will provide the family with some high order thinking questions to use."
"We got through the student's flashcards without much trouble, and then did another page of ELA practice. She would get upset when she answered a question wrong, I think from embarrassment. I told her that this was just practice, and I think that helped. We also did some more reading, and I think her desire to read is growing, which is great."
"The student and I met twice this week due to spring break conflicts for myself and his family. We followed up on adding and subtracting three digit numbers and reversing operations. He got a lot better on the second day by double checking his work. We worked on telling time and distinguishing between the hour and minute hand. He has gotten rave compliments from his teacher by learning how to tell time by looking at a clock and keeping time management. The timers during tutoring has really helped this progress. For the final 20 minutes, we worked on measuring with a tape measure. He did really well today and I'm glad his teacher is noticing his progress."
