Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session the student and I went over how to take limits of various kinds of functions. Off of the bat it was easy to see that these kinds of functions normally require a more advanced knowledge of limits and their applications, specifically L'Hopital's Rule. That being said, he definitely has a knack for solving problems algebraically."
"We went over absolute maximum and minimum and function graphing. We got through the material very quickly as he is very proficient with derivatives so with the extra time I went through some of the history and usage of Euler's number and exponentials which he had yet to encounter."
"Today we began reviewing for the chapter 9 test. We reviewed power series manipulations, radius of convergence, and the Lagrange error term. We completed 75% of the first free response style questions as well. The student will finish the last one without me, and we will discuss it during the next session."
"Today we discussed definite integrals and how they can be used to calculate the area underneath a curve. We briefly went over how they are derived from Riemann sums, but primarily focused on how the interval over which you are integrating can be broken up so that integrals can be taken over continuous sub intervals, and then added up to get the correct answer."
"We covered the technique of differentiation for general power, the chain rule, and the business application for derivatives and changing the function values. The student continues demonstrating great interest in learning new things and solidifying his current knowledge. There were some things at the session that appeared to be unfamiliar to him. We will explore these topics during our next session."
"We worked on derivatives again. The student went through his homework and worked through the problems. We also reviewed his old homework and notes. I explained the definition of derivatives and when to use them. I answered his questions about secant and tangent lines. He was struggling most with figuring out what the question is asking him to do and how to approach it. He was more confident in the material after we reviewed it and he was able to ask questions."
