Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I reviewed commas and semicolons with two worksheets. She did really well on these, and she does remember most of the material. As a way to tie everything together, we started working on an essay answering the question "Why is Glee your favorite TV show?" This is proving to be a very useful exercise. She's really excited about it, and that helps her come up with ideas. Tonight we brainstormed ideas to use in the essay, and then put them into four categories. She did a great job with this part of the exercise. I did this to help give her a simple example of ways to organize her thoughts. We got through the first two body paragraphs tonight, and we will finish on Saturday. She did well writing the first two."
"The student's mother asked me to help him study for a big grammar test coming up in May. She worked with the teacher to provide a study guide and resources to help us study. We started by reviewing adjectives and adverbs. He did very well."
"Learned several new verbs, spoke in ASL 70% of the time, toured the house learning house vocabulary in ASL. Practiced by describing many things using the new verbs we learned."
"Yet another fantastic session with the student. Today we worked ahead on phonics, including complex word families combined with blends- for example: "sl" with "ight". He excelled in all blends presented but continues to need work on decoding, letter sounds, digraphs, diphthongs, complex word families and the concept of the "bossy 'e'". He is making great gains, even in the short time that we have been together. I see a bright and successful future for him!"
"The student and I had a relatively successful session. I will start gathering materials for her over the weekend, and I think we will be able to make some good progress."
"We did our multisensory exercise, long and short vowels, word blends, and some guided reading and independent reading. The student read from a second grade book with few errors. She will continue reading her Magical Treehouse book until we meet again."
