"He showed great improvements on the English Section -- he scored a (30) on our practice test, which is an improvement of (5) ACT points. We continued to work through the Math Diagnostic. Today, we also looked at reading comprehension, locating specific passages which point to the correct answers. Finally, we did a quick intro to the science section, and I showed him how to solve the problems without actually reading the passages. We worked through two passages in Science, and he will finish the rest for homework. Also, for homework, I assigned some absolute value inequalities problems."
"I brought the student a study guide/review sheet for the SAT 2 Physics test so that we may begin reviewing it starting with our next session. We went over a diagnostic I had him do last week. He completed 40 of the 50 problems. However, he missed only two problems, and that will score him around a 700-740 on the test. Thus, right now I am focusing on accuracy with him rather than speed. Once I know he can get all 40 problems right, then we will work on increasing the number of problems he completes, and only if he can get those right. Today we reviewed 3-D geometry (coordinate planes and volumes) as well as polar coordinates. We also went over conic section equation and properties, and went over properties of limits and binomial expansions. He understands the concepts, but he just doesn't fully remember them. Going over the diagnostic he took, our next review topics will be direct and inverse variation as well as limits and trig functions and identities."
"Today we covered strategies for reading and answering passage-based questions for the critical reading section. We looked at how to actually read the passage, and the characteristics of right and wrong answer choices. She seemed to like the new strategy, and was answering the questions with high accuracy. I left her with a passage and 8 questions of extra practice."
