Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked through an online assignment in preparation for a quiz on Monday. I answered the student's questions and the student ended the session with a clear idea of how to tackle reflection geometry problems."
"The student and I worked on the first in a series of packets reviewing for her upcoming geometry final. We worked on midpoint and distance formulas, and wrote equations of lines in standard form, slope-intercept form, and point-slope form. We proved whether various polygons were similar/congruent based on the length of the sides and the angles."
"The student and I went over topics that will be on her midterm. This mostly covered triangles and their properties, and the properties of quadrilaterals. We also went over the application of this material."
"Saturday was the student's 26th tutoring session. It went very well. He answered many questions where he had to use multiple volume formulas to find the volume of composite shapes. After working with the pyramids several times, he understands that the height is used for volume and the slant height is used for surface area. The Pythagorean theorem is sometimes used to find the height. Again, he spent the extra time working on his research paper. He completed a half page more. Excellent work."
"We went over problems from her review packet for her geometry test, and also extra problems which I provided. Topics included finding the point that partitions a segment into a particular ratio, using congruence properties of triangles, using the distance formula and midpoint formula and finding the perimeter and area of a triangle. We also concentrated on using trigonometric functions (sine/cosine/tangent) for right triangles, calculating lengths using rules for secants and tangents, etc."
"We have started to prepare for finals. We began reviewing angles and their properties. He need a brief refresher on supplementary angles and the degrees of a triangle. We then moved onto circumference and area."
