Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we reviewed topics covered in our last 2 sessions to prepare the student for his midterm exam. We went through some practice questions regarding the endocrine system as well as essay type questions for all systems covered including sensory system, endocrine system, skeletal system (with focus on bone composition and joints), and the integumentary system. I am confident that he will do well on the midterm exam!"
"Today the student and I talked about problem solving strategies and study methods. I sent him pictures of a few pages of my textbook that I found useful and told him that they might help him prepare. We then went over the first PowerPoint on respiration. Overall, it went very well. The material for respiration is very straightforward, and I don't envision him having any major problems. We will continue on Sunday."
"The student has an exam on Monday, so we are systematically discussing all the information on respiratory and renal physiology. Today we covered new material on respiration - the details of gas exchange between RBCs and alveoli, RBCs and the systemic tissues. We used two very good diagrams I have, and followed each of the chemical reactions involving oxygen and CO2. He understood it very well and drew his own diagrams. We clarified the roles of central & peripheral chemoreceptors, and the difference between respiratory and metabolic acidosis. We reviewed transport mechanisms in the PCT, and found some excellent graphics online to clarify one of the slides from his professor. I asked him to pick 5 things as top priority to cover for the exam. We have several more sessions scheduled to prepare and I want to make sure we don't run out of time and leave anything out."
"The student and I continued on the chapter of the nervous system. We focused on the different parts of the brain and its intricate functions including the cerebrum, diencephalon, cerebellum, brainstem, primary motor area, primary sensory area etc. She continues to be intrigued by this subject. She is always asking questions to make sure that she understands the concept of it. I do my best to include visual and kinesthetic learning strategies, such as videos. She mentioned that her exam is coming up soon and I know she will do an awesome job. It's all repetition and making sure that it is broken down in an understandable form."
"The student is learning about the respiratory system. Today we covered the head and neck regions as well as reviewed last sessions notes. She used various anatomical models to study the different parts of the respiratory system. The focus was on position, relationships and function. She was quizzed in each section covered. I will send daily questions via email to her to help her further prepare for upcoming exam. She was encouraged to reach out to peers for study sessions. She was also encouraged to review notes daily."
"The student and I began review for his test coming up on Tuesday. We went over his study guide and I had him trace pathways for practice on his essay questions. He is doing amazing with this section and I have no doubt that he won't receive an A on his next test!"
