North Carolina Tutoring FAQ

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in North Carolina?

The nature of the material and instruction, for instance, can make a difference. You may be quoted one amount for a college student to tutor your seventh-grade student on basic computer programming, but a senior in college working with a seasoned attorney to prepare for the LSAT might pay something else. Session frequency also plays a critical role. You may find you will pay less per session by committing to a larger number of sessions overall.

Which tutoring subjects does Varsity Tutors offer for students in North Carolina?

Tutoring review by Kate in North Carolina
The student has her first assessment of the year coming up, so we focused our review on a few of the topics that will be covered on that exam, including algebraic expressions, equations, and number properties. When working on solving equations, I noticed that she was still struggling with negative numbers. We spent a good amount of time reviewing operations with negative numbers, which led to a bit more ease in solving algebraic equations. The student took great notes for herself to reference so that she can practice a bit more on her own.

We practiced translating and conjugating regular -ar verbs (examples: hablar, escuchar, bailar) in preparation for a quiz. By the end of the session, he was better at the conjugation and could remember most of the vocabulary's meaning in English. We practiced using the verbs in sentences that also involved plural and singular articles and nouns that he has learned. I also helped him with Spanish pronunciation, especially with vowel sounds.

We reviewed for a test on Thursday. Topics included points, lines, and planes. The student worked through a set of assigned review problems and got most correct. The only area of concern was understanding parallel lines, transversals, and angles in more complicated figures. We reviewed the area in great details, and the student is now confident as evident by correctly reworking some of the problems that he was unclear about.

We went over a reading comprehension from a practice SSAT exam. We focused on strategy, both reading and use of time. We also went over a bit of math homework which was relevant to the exam. The student and I are going to meet on Saturday to do a math section and finish this reading section.

The student and I covered vocabulary activity and examining idea generation by critiquing Hinton's use of style in 'The Outsiders.' The student's attitude was eager and thoughtful when examining Hinton's word choices. The student has progressed in asking questions about the text and the author's reasoning.
