Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In our first session for this week, we finished reviewing the Verbal diagnostic from last week, going over test specific and general test prep strategies. I have noticed improvement in Student 1 and Student 2's Reading Comprehension and testing. I think the more practice they get with a wide variety of passages (history, science, contemporary life and literature based) the better they will do on the assessment. We talked about the two documents I uploaded for them and ways to use them for test prep (Building vocabulary and Prefixes and suffixes). We then moved back into reading practice, targeting the History passages across three areas: Ideas, Textual Relationships and Language. Instead of a full diagnostic test, I assigned them mini assessments consisting of 2 - 12 questions. We completed the Language and Textual relationships quizzes on which Student 2 scored 50% (missed 1 question) and 66% ( missed 4 questions), respectively, and Student 1 scored 100% and 75% (missed 3), respectively. We will continue with the Reading practice for Friday's session, but will split that time with Math review (the review of the weakest areas in Math for both students). Before ending our session, I uploaded a document for them that is related to the assessment. It provides some insight into what to expect when taking the assessment, as well as some helpful tips and a few practice exams. Overall the session went well and the girls continue to make progress."
"I tested the student on verbal, quantitative, and reading and timed him on each one. He is going to retake verbal, quantitative, reading, and math before next week and time himself. This will help him get used to being timed, and in addition, he will become more familiar with the testing material."
"We dove straight into the quantitative reasoning section of the practice test/word problems today. The student did very well overall. We covered approximately four pages (15 questions). The student caught on pretty quickly to the fact that reading each word problem carefully. I then assigned him to review the following concepts on his own: mean, median, and mode as well as ratios and probability. It was a great session."
