Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The previous session, I assigned the student a full practice test to do (minus the essay). This session, I scored the test and reviewed the results to locate trends. We then worked through a math section in detail, and worked through related practice problems for questions of issue. In addition to describing logical methods and guessing strategies for approaching problems, I taught how to use the concepts of geometric probability, 45/45/90 and 30/60/90 triangles, and the Pythagorean theorem in the context of the math section. For next time, I asked him to review the additional math problems he got wrong in his practice test using what he learned."
"We went over reading (thesis and supporting examples) and math (factors, multiples and remainders). For homework I assigned the next practice test."
"For this session we focused on math questions. I had the student read out loud the pages from the front of the book that talk about different math type things. We looked at the different ways the book mentions of solving the different types of problems, and some of the math ideas the SAT will test on. One math concept we looked at was how to use a number line, which included a sample question that I helped him figure out how to answer. He was quick at answering some of the math questions. His homework is to finish reading the math chapter which includes 4 or 5 boxed example questions that he should also try to answer."
