Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered the New Deal and FDR's presidential legacy. She would first read the information then answer short answer/essay questions pertaining to those sections. It was helpful when I gave a short summary of the readings after she read them. We discussed the use of flashcards in preparing for her final exam; I sent her the link to a stack of 500 U.S. History flashcards for her to go through over the next two months. I assigned her to complete the readings and assignments on World War II and the Cold War by our next tutoring session."
"In today's session, we covered the topic of World War I. We thoroughly reviewed each sub-section, including key terms and major events. We also discussed at length the global context of war, and why such wars come to be in the first place. I advised the student once again to keep a running list of key terms, emphasizing that early note-taking can ease the stress of cramming the night before. He appeared open to the idea and agreed to make an effort to do so."
"In our first meeting, we talked about the student's interests and favorite subjects. I had a reading example for comprehension. We also used it to assess grammar skills. Finally, I had a sheet on the Columbian Exchange and we discussed her knowledge of US and world history. She seemed very capable in all fields, excelling in reading comprehension, math, and geography. As this is curriculum based tutoring, I will be focusing mostly on grammar and topical US History. I will be assigning homework and suggesting reading for the student. I want to make sure the appropriate subjects and topics for study are chosen to keep her up to state and national standards, but also to encourage creativity and interest-based learning."
