"It was good to see the student's teacher's test writing style and I'm glad I was able to help the student with their test corrections. The have the knowledge and more practice will bring more confidence. A good thing to do might be to write the test questions down and come at them again blank to help improve their ability with the types of problems their teacher writes, and also improving their confidence and familiarity with the question phrasing. Keep up the dedicated work!"
"Today I decided to give the student a practice English exam. I asked her what she felt she was the least confident in, and she said English. I had her work through each passage. Then, at the end, we would go over answers so they were fresh in her mind. I told her to do another full practice exam tomorrow, so we'll see how that one goes."
"The student and I discussed recent homework assignments and went over some recent quizzes that her teacher had returned. Then we worked on a reading passage from her AP test prep book. It was a short passage, but it took a while for her to understand because of somewhat complex sentence structures and esoteric vocabulary. Still, she did a good job taking her time on understanding the passage, and in the end had an excellent comprehension of the main ideas. At this point, it is essential for her to improve her speed when reading and comprehending ,but she does an excellent job understanding when given enough time. We will continue to work on this and I know that with time and practice she will improve. Then, we worked on some listening exercises from her AP prep book. She did an excellent job with these."
"The student is currently working on an essay for her English class, so I reviewed her introduction and helped her structure the outline for the rest of her paper. We went over how to incorporate literary criticism and analyze themes in an organized fashion."
"The student and I went over reading, math, and writing sections for the SAT. He got perfect scores on the reading and math and missed two on the writing."
"We went through the Latin passage "in taberna" from stage 9 of the student's Latin course, and then went through his vocabulary. He is doing a great job with translating. I think that he needs to put a little bit more time into studying and memorizing vocabulary, which seems to be his biggest problem in Latin (and truly it's not even a big problem). I like to spend time going through the vocabulary with him to help him see words we get in English from the Latin words. Also, he is beginning to see relationships between different words as he learns more vocabulary, prefixes, etc. Overall he is doing great and I am very pleased with his work."
