Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered topics including exponentials and logarithms; their rules and properties, their brief derivations, their uses, and a few practice problems involving manipulation of their functions."
"Looked at line integrals, calculating surface area of a function rotates across an axis, and some difficult u-substitution problems."
"Went over materials from Chapter 4 of the course textbook, which included histograms, stem & leaf plots, skewness, interquartile range (IQR), median, mean, and standard deviation."
"I helped the student with his homework in Science, English, Social Studies and Math. He has a math test tomorrow, so I made out a quiz for him. We reviewed his answers when he was finished."
"The student and I worked on surface area problems, using the arc length integral formula to find the surface area of a solid of revolution. The first few problems were slow going, as usual, but we got into the hang of it. Like other questions of this complexity, there are a lot of steps involved and often the problems get more complex. Attention to detail and checking work is very important. A small error, such as incorrect rounding, can compound and lead an answer off even though the problem was mostly correct. Good work overall!"
"Today, the student and I began our session with a thorough review of functions, polynomials, the quadratic equation and factors. I brought a supplemental book for her and gave her several assignments to be completed prior to our next session. I took up a previous completed assignment from her (regarding ordered pairs and the xy-coordinate plane) and will grade it and return it with my remarks during our next session. We then discussed the properties of shapes, i.e. area and perimeter. From there, we reviewed a bit of Geometry. This included types of triangles, types of angles, side congruences, and the Exterior Angle Theorem (briefly). The order in which our sessions will proceed will be to review of prior materials and assignments, Review/Practice assessment material, and Introduction to future material (intended to expose her to what we will soon get into). She will be given assignments at each session and I will occasionally email helpful notes or web links for her assistance. She did a wonderful job today. She had already improved in some areas and was very active during our session."
