Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Michael in Niles, IL
We debriefed about the student's Science project grade, Math quiz, Math homework, and asking Social Studies teacher about note-taking. The student reported that the SS teacher only expects notes for current events videos. She thinks she did fairly well on the Math quiz. However, she did have the recently graded Math homework. We reviewed the day's Math homework.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by James in Niles, IL
The student brought his history project on comparing the Jamestown and Plymouth settlements. He had started this project prior to our last meeting and met with his teacher to check his progress. He has done good work so far on finding information for the project. His facts were, by and large, highly relevant to his topic, though there were a few that needed a bit more focus. Because the project takes facts from a source and has the students write them in their own words, I worked with him on paraphrasing to avoid plagiarism. Further, we looked at specific grammatical errors in his writing. I asked him to read the relevant articles closely and to track down missing pieces of information. He will be turning in this assignment prior to our next session.

The student and I reviewed for his "Of Mice and Men" test. He did great. We went over the algebra review sheet I made up for him, discussing the problems he got wrong. We did a second worksheet with positive and negative integers with exponents (positive and negative).

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Julie in Niles, IL
We reviewed her language arts class homework, and after multiple attempts to get her to focus, she managed to complete the assigned worksheet. Then, we discussed her reading class, and she confirmed that she finished the required reading already. Next, we discussed her science and math classes. Finally, we discussed her social studies class. Her test was rescheduled from Friday to next Tuesday. She still had to complete her online timeline of Chinese history. I reviewed it and recommended that she made corrections based on grammar. She also confirmed that she needed more review of the chapter based on having less familiarity with ancient Chinese history. I told her that I would help her review for Tuesday's social studies class over the weekend. She mentioned that she had French homework, so I recommended that she do her best to finish her assignment on time.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Amanda in Niles, IL
The student got his Annotation project back and got a B+ this time, over the B he got before we started working together which is a nice improvement. He needs to use the quotes in the annotation instead of just separately. The student started reading Night by Elie Wiesel. It is his next book for class and I suggested he get a head start. He's read quite a bit and we were able to discuss some of the themes and the difficult questions that the book brings up. We had a very lively discussion about some of these themes and I challenged the student to think about how the themes made him feel and what questions they brought up. I think this is a great book for the student, because he loves history and this is a memoir.
