Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the first student and I reviewed for the state-mandated district algebra test he has tomorrow. He is very confident in his abilities now, and was super excited because he got a 100 on the slope test he had Tuesday. His main concern is the test he will take tomorrow. I told him to read carefully and do his best. The second student and I worked on multiplying decimals. He did not understand how to decide where to put the decimal after multiplying the number. He caught on as soon as I explained. I wrote practice problems for him in an effort to improve his accuracy and attention to detail in his work. He got all of the problems I wrote for him correct, and realized that going a little slower in his work would help him do better on assignments."
"Today the student and I looked over the next section for his Math class since he just completed a test yesterday. He hasn't gotten his scores back, but he felt very confident."
"We did and reviewed the problems her teacher had assigned her and also did various problems from the textbook in preparation for her quiz tomorrow on chapter 3."
"Concepts Covered: solving simultaneous equations / factoring common terms from binomials and trinomials / multiplying binomials / factoring trinomials / factoring the difference of two squares. The student's attitude is great. I left him with two worksheets to do."
"Today the student and I finished up working with chapter 5. We reviewed what we had covered last time with inequalities and absolute value, and covered new material with logarithms and exponential functions. Halfway through, I gave her a quiz that covered chapter 5 and she scored an amazing 90%. Both mistakes made were simple mistakes showing she still understood the concept which was great to see. We finished the session starting chapter 6 going over number sense and categorizing numbers from natural numbers to complex numbers."
"In the previous two sessions, the student completed a packet of 107 math problems that were assigned as summer practice. He breezed through the arithmetic review, but needed a refresher in algebraic operations. We were able to complete the relatively large assignment due to his interest in the material and heightened level of focus. As far as problem solving strategies are concerned, I walked through each problem type with him and explained the idiosyncrasies of each step."
