Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed all of his previous notes/class work today for an upcoming notebook check that he has. We went over every single problem together, and he has shown thorough understanding of most of the material."
"This week Student 1 and I worked on mathematical operations dealing with decimals while Student 2 and I worked on adding and subtracting fractions. They're both gifted students and very pleasant to work with."
"We reviewed the long division process and did some game-style drills on multiplication facts and estimation skills. It is wonderful to see an increase in his confidence and ability to explain his reasoning process."
"The student and I worked on his homework first which was based on volumes of rectangular prisms. Then I had him work on volumes again from his workbook from his class. He did very well on them. We also then moved on to converting from centimeters cubed to milliliters and liters, which he also did very well on. I also graded his work from over the weekend, which was algebra work with addition and subtraction, which he aced. He figured out how to arrive to the answer on his own, which was brilliant. This would be great foundation work for algebra for his later years."
"During this session, the student and I worked on reading. We read various levels of text: J, K, and L. We practiced reading fluently and timed his reading. With practice, he was able to increase his fluency. I also assessed him, and he is working an instructional level K and independently on a level I/J. He needs to continue to practice reading and his fluency skills. We discussed ways to practice his fluency on his own."
"The student worked on subtraction up to 20. We used addition to check her work. We also used a timer to help her focus and be more motivated. Then she studied her spelling words. Finally, we read a book for 20 minutes. She is making good progress and reading with expression."
