Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began with a discussion of To Kill a Mockingbird, which the student is reading for English class. He seems to be familiar with the story, which is encouraging, as he struggled some last week with chapter 1. We then discussed the criteria for ACT essays and how to write a good argument. We practiced writing an argument essay about the role of multidisciplinary studies in the high school curriculum."
"Physics reviewed for the student's quiz on Friday. Went through practice assessment test problems from the textbook on Work, Momentum, Impulse, Energy. I think she's in good shape for the quiz."
"We covered introductory matrix arithmetic, as well as using matrices to solve for unknown variable. In addition, we are going to begin working on improving the student's mental math skills, which are important in helping students get a firm handle on concepts."
"Today, the student and I went over more percentages and probability problems. She is getting a stronger sense of how to work with these problems and the tricks she can use for them. We also spent time on reading comprehension and vocab. Next time, we will work more on quadratics and exponents but I have confidence that she will be quick to pick up these concepts."
"Today the student and I started our session learning about the go verbs. We learned how to conjugate them and then we moved to indirect pronouns. We practiced using them in sentences. Then we reviewed some of the things learned in our previous sessions, talking about both subjunctive and conditional tenses. We finished talking about verbs ser and estar and the differences between them. We still had some time to work on telling the time of the day in Spanish."
"We worked on character writing. The characters were from a set of four main radicals - five characters per radical, including the roof radical, the room radical, the wood radical, and the botanical radical. We also did a bit of vocabulary memorization from a previous unit about campuses. We practiced naming different buildings and describing where they were. He is getting a better feel for creating sentences in Chinese."
