Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered India and Southeast Asia in anticipation of her upcoming test on Wednesday. We also covered some techniques that she could use to help her cut back on time spent on reading to study in a more efficient manner."
"When the session began I asked the student if she had received her AP exam and essay back from last week, but she had not. We started Chapter 17 and were able to cover about half of the chapter. In chemistry, we discussed moles and conversions. Her homework is to spend more time on reading her AP work and reviewing previous work."
"Today the pupil and I began reviewing for his final exam. I first asked him how he did on the essay portion of the exam on Friday. He said he felt comfortable with the topic and was ready to start reviewing. We began discussing events spanning prehistory to 600 B.C.E. I suggested he go through his notes and resources his teacher gave him and mark the concepts he is unfamiliar with. Then he can search online or in his textbook to retrieve the necessary information and create a study guide catered to his needs. I also instructed him to get through at least two sections of a periodization each night using this strategy. I will check on his progress during the next session."
"The student is gathering study guides, PowerPoints, and re-doing her notes so that she can study for her teacher-made exam on next Friday. I have agreed to help her in the next week as much as possible. We will communicate by phone and email with any questions she has. I do recommend that we work together in the coming semester so that I can help her prepare for the exam. I recommended that she makes sure she knows all the vocabulary that she has gone over this semester"
"Today we covered all of Period 3, 1450-1750. Her unit test on this material is tomorrow. We covered large, overarching themes and concepts, the major empires, and major sociocultural movements, including Renaissance, Protestant Reformation, Scientific Revolution, and Enlightenment. The student has made A's on the last three quizzes and this unit test could significantly boost her grade! Her test is content-based and she thoroughly understands the content and has significantly improved her analytic skills."
"We covered European history from the Treaty of Westphalia through the scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment of the 18th century. We explored themes of the struggle between absolute monarchs and the nobles and bourgeoisie in France and England as seen in the English Civil War and Constitutional Monarchy vs. the golden rule of Louis XIV. We talked about how the struggles were similar and how they differed, and the rise of the Austrian Hapsburgs (later Austria-Hungary) and Hohenzollern Prussians as a result of Louis XIV's defeat in war and the subsequent decline of the Spanish empire."
