Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our session, the student would alternate between reading and writing questions about the book he was reading. This encouraged him to be actively reading. We also discussed what he read during each interval so he could practice summarizing what he was reading."
"During this assignment, the student completed reading his level reader which was about the Wright brothers and the invention of the airplane. After he completed the book, I asked him questions to determine his reading comprehension. He was able to answer some of my questions from memory. For other answers, he reviewed the text. He also was given seven vocabulary words based on the book. He had to write the words, definitions and parts of speech for the words."
"The student and I worked on his archetypes reading log and vocabulary lesson. We went through the entire first chapter of his book (Curse of the Titans) and took notes on every important detail (characters' names, descriptions, important events, employment of literary devices such as similes and metaphors, and other important information). I assigned the student to complete one chapter a day of notes for a total of four chapters until our next session. Afterward, we worked on his vocabulary. He informed me that he finished his vocabulary during a study hall. He used the tricks and strategies that I taught him, such as replacing a word with an adjective or noun to test the correct part of speech. He previously had trouble with selecting the correct part of speech to correspond with the correct vocabulary word. He selected all the correct words independently and used their correct forms with higher than 80% accuracy."
"The student had a math homework worksheet that I helped him complete. Then, we played Sight Word Bingo using a 4th grade sight word list. This game will help increase his recognition of sight words and their matching definition."
"The student reviewed a reading passage and answered comprehension questions. He needs practice on inferring, cause and effect and main idea/details. He was focused and used a graphic organizer to outline the passage."
"The student and I discussed his research paper. He is to have a rough draft written by the time of our next class."
