Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I finished the first Reading section from practice test 1 and the sentence completion portion of the second Reading section. We also corrected his last practice SAT test, and worked through some writing drills dealing with prepositions and paragraph improvements. We went through some vocabulary from a general word list and worked through the first math section from practice test 2."
"Today with the student (our first session this semester) we went through her 3 classes, what they required, and where I could be of help. She is taking a geosciences class, an art history class, and a psychology class. There are several papers for her psychology and geology class that I will be able to work on with her, as well as assisting her with studying for the art history class and psychology. It will be good for her if she can make time for consistent meetings with me as the year progresses."
"The student had quite a bit of homework in chemistry, biology and physics. We went over his chemistry homework which entailed writing chemical formulas, writing common name and uses. For biology, we went over the effects of CO2 in the blood. For physics, the homework talked about refraction. He has gotten much more enthusiastic. This helped our session immensely as he was eager to do work and was paying attention."
"The students reviewed arithmetic, algebra, and quantitative reasoning for math. Then, they reviewed 100 vocabulary words and discussed ways to write outlines and essays for several prompts."
"The student worked on his math assignment that consisted of finding the least common multiple of numbers for most of the session. We ended the session by making a few revisions to some fraction problems."
"This was our initial meet and greet session. I wanted to talk to the student specifically as to where her problems were arising. I noted some troubles she was having with terminology. I think one of the hardest concepts to tackle in economics is dealing with what people consider to be the definition and how a term like investment can be used both ways to mean savings and investment. Trying to learn economic terms is like deprogramming the learned wording and learning to embrace the new terminology. We will continue to work on this in our next session."
