How can a tutor help you master the ACT?
Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met for another session of ACT tutoring. This session was very productive as we were able to go over all four sections plus writing. She started very strong, submitting an excellent essay, and missing only a couple question on math and English."
"Practiced a sample reading section on the ACT, particularly time management. I offered the students a couple of time management strategies that have helped me in the past, and encouraged them to try them on the Reading section of the test. Their Reading test scores are up in the 75 percentile range."
"We went over his score from the practice test he took previous to meeting with me and set a goal. I also went over some pacing strategies for the reading portion of the ACT. Since the student is taking the writing portion, we also went over some pacing strategies for writing an effective essay for the ACT."
"The student is giving her studies more effort and it shows. Today, we focused on strategies for tackling the science-based reading passages. As these are structured like essays, note-taking can be particularly effective, as each paragraph tends to be focused. In terms of math, she is still doing well. Overall, she has showed great improvement and I believe she will make good use of the time she has left before the test."
"The student has his ACT Prep book now, so we worked out of the practice test portion of that. We spent an hour on math, thirty minutes on science, and thirty minutes on English. His English was really strong, so we will focus on other subjects in future sessions. In the math section, I helped him problem-solve and set up the problems. In the science section, we applied the strategy of finding key words and restating questions in simpler language."
"As we have gone over the format for the new SAT, the student and I started working through some algebra-style problems that she might see when she takes the test. Algebra is heavily emphasized on the new SAT, so it's good to look over! She remembered quite a bit from her classes and from reviews we've done, and she was successful in answering most of the problems on her own. For the ones she had a little difficulty with, she was able to learn some tricks that make those questions less of a time-consuming burden."
