Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started with the student's homework, a worksheet on adjective gender agreement. Then we reviewed the passe compose. Next we practiced regular -IR verbs in the present tense. Last, we finished with some additional adjective practice. I asked the about her interest in writing to a French a penpal in order to give her language study a more interesting context, so I will try to arrange a penpal with a French school. This will provide both authentic reading and writing practice."
"Reviewed past tenses. He still needs some review and practice. Reviewed en and y. Learned about reflexive verbs and future proche. He has a few small assignments to complete for next time. We will continue future tenses."
"The student and I had another great French session. We continue going over/practicing grammar and French as a whole through her homework. We always get to be creative with French too! Her French and efforts are fantastic and I love working with her!"
"Today, we went over more sample questions for the placement test. The student did perfectly on the multiple choice section for short readings. We also went over some sample speaking exercises. I asked him to write down phrases that he could learn and re-use if the questions came up on the test. He knows most of the words that he wants to use, but his problem is just putting them together. The more we worked on it, the better he got."
"We went over how to write a 5 paragraph essay, a comparison & contrast essay, and then reflexive verbs in the past tense. Next week will be much heavier on French."
"We reviewed her unit 1 and 2 vocabulary words, including several "er" verbs. We focused a majority of our time preparing her for the writing component of her upcoming test, where she must write 2 paragraphs (that must be 50 words each) talking about her classes. I used a graphic organizer to help her take a simple sentence and expand on it to make a longer, more complex sentence. We used connecting words (and, but, because) to further develop the number of words in the sentence."
"Reviewed action verbs and used them with commands to each other; played cards and described the scenes on the cards."
"The student and I reviewed listening comprehension with regard to recognizing the past participle (passe compose) of various verbs used in narrative. She performed very well."
"We spent time just trying to hold a conversation in French. I asked him to describe his brother. We went through some basic time references such as tonight, last night, this weekend, last weekend, next weekend, and today. We also went over using à and de. I briefly went over how to use the past tense and the future tense."
"During our first session, we discussed the current vocabulary list (regarding purchasing clothing) and present tense verb conjugations that will be covered in the student's quiz tomorrow. She was quick to grasp several tricky concepts about spelling and grammar."
"Reviewed irregular verbs in the present, but this time in context. Talked about interpretation and translation."
"Introductions, assessment of level, discussion of motivation, specific goals / expectations, developed flashcards for use with verbs."
