Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on going over his homework. Our main focus is on: algebraic concepts, particularly figuring out conceptually what to do with variables, and writing expressions."
"Reviewed the following with both students: finding scale factors, using scale factors to create models, calculating final price after discount, finding scale factors for similar triangles, and calculating probability."
"Today we reviewed skip counting. This was a more advanced version and I was excited to see that the student understood everything and really excelled!"
"Worked with the student on how to find the valuable of a variable using the 4 basic operations. Also reviewed working with decimals and fractions. Picked up this algebraic concept very easily."
"The student is really doing great. We discussed how to compute area of an irregular hexagon with 90 degree angles, and we also reviewed percent, decimals and fractions."
"Student A has a large project due soon. I helped her start a draft. We will definitely continue working on this project next session. We also practiced her multiplication and division tables. She is improving in her speed and accuracy. Student B had single digit subtraction for homework. I will continue working with this skill. We also played a game to reinforce decoding. He seemed to have improved his digraph recognition."
"Student A--Immediately drilled using metric/imperial units we had previously gone over in prior tutoring sessions. He seemed to retain most of the material and so we moved on to practicing long division. We played a game of solving each step back and forth between us and every wrong move earned him a black star, while every positive move earned him a gold star. If he had more black stars than gold stars, there would be an undefined consequence. Near the end, we went over his reading comprehension homework. Student B--Drilled metric/imperial units until she was answering my questions correctly 100 percent of the time. Then moved on to long division. After progress, we then moved on to writing poetry. I helped her with structure and writing descriptive phrases and saw noticeable improvement."
"During this session, we established the content to be taught and reviewed which was mainly subtraction fact practice, plus additional math skills (subtraction with regrouping, word problems, etc.) later into the tutoring. The student practiced basic subtraction problems and then we began focusing on odd and even numbers in order to understand common math rules. We also reviewed number lines and fact families, along with some place value."
"Worked with student A on mean problems. Worked with student B to study for quiz on graphs of rational functions."
"The student and I began working on a math packet from school. We practiced multiplication, division and reducing fractions. He did a great job!"
"Tonight the student and I worked on her math homework. We focused on estimation and strategies for problem solving. We then worked on her spelling homework and reviewed for her spelling test."
"We worked on comparing fractions using <, >, or =. First we completed a fraction chart, and the student did very well using this to help her compare. We also reviewed how to multiply fractions."
