"The student and I worked on the following concepts: understanding how adding a prefix changes a unit, solving density problems involving liquids and irregular solids, expressing numbers in scientific notation, significant figures, and using dimensional analysis. We will continue to work on the following topics: scientific notation and using dimensional analysis. We will also work on how to consistently master how to set up dimensional analysis tables/problems. I believe that with additional practice he will fully understand."
"The student had a lab experiment that she needed help with in the calculations portion. It involved several steps: finding limiting reagent, percent uncertainty, percent error, and calculating heat released, mass from density, and converting from one unit to another. We worked on understanding how to convert the units of the theoretical values to units she could use to calculate the percent error. We also looked at the steps leading up to the rest of the heat calculations, working through the purpose of each calculation. After today's session she understands the calculations required in completing this kind of experiment (heat)."
"We covered atomic structure today. We went into atomic number, atomic mass, and subatomic particles. Next we reviewed electron clouds, valence electrons, transfer of electrons to form bonds, and groups of elements on the periodic table. We worked the most with groups of elements on the periodic table. I asked her to complete a worksheet from class with a chart breaking down the atomic components of certain elements."
