Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we went over a diagnostic that I sent the student to do and her math stayed consistent. We went over the math sections in the time we had, and discussed test-taking skills. I also had her teach back to me new topics we covered to ensure that she had learned it and understood the problem. I assigned her the rest to look over and gave her a copy of some vocabulary for the college entrance exam to review."
"The student and I discussed his previous experience with the college entrance exams and his goals for our time together. We agreed that we would focus on the writing and critical reading sections and than we may work on math together if time allows. We began by working on both portions of the writing section: the essay and the multiple-choice. First, we reviewed an essay the student had written in preparation for our session. We considered how to best approach a prompt, and we learned strategies for brainstorming and writing the essay. Next, we discussed the multiple choice portion and we learned strategies for more efficiently solving improving sentences and identifying sentence error questions; and we did several practice problems together. He did a great job of applying the strategies he learned. For this coming Thursday, he and I will make a list of ten good examples (e.g. historical figures, pieces of literature) for the essay section and brainstorm an essay of his choosing using two of those examples. In addition, he will finish and score the two multiple-choice sections we began together."
"Today, the student and I review grammar (subject-verb agreement) and math (exponents). I assigned practice test 1 and 2 and creating index cards for vocab."
