Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began by going over the student's old and focusing on problem-solving strategies. The test was multiple choice so we went over all the answer choice and used them as opportunities to go over terms he had forgotten. I recommended that he go over definitions of geometric terms in order to do better on future exams. By the end of the session he was able to explain internal and external angles of a triangle, the definitions of the types of triangles, and how to use the sum of all the angles inside a triangle to solve for missing angles. I encouraged him to use his textbook as a tool for completing his homework and for reviewing topics he felt he did not fully understand."
"We reviewed topics for her upcoming exam including parallel lines, triangle theorems, equation of parallel and perpendicular lines, and slope intercept forms."
"We went over revision for quiz including finding the circumcenter and orthocenter of a triangle. We also did revision of chapter 5. The student is doing well, and she is enjoying geometry."
"I spent this session teaching the student the various types of angle relationships that result from a transversal through parallel lines - alternate interior/exterior angles, consecutive interior/exterior angles, and corresponding angles - as well as how to prove lines are parallel given the right angle relationships. We were able to review his homework fairly quickly and move on to further material. He has a good grasp of the basic concepts, only having occasional difficulty with determining whether angles are interior or exterior."
"We continued to cover concepts concerning triangles, this time focusing on triangle inequalities. The theorems covered included the inequality theorem and the triangle sum theorem. The student will have a quiz on this material later in the week and feels confident going into it now."
"In our session today, we worked on constructions. We did some guided practice for the constructions and some comparisons on how the constructions processes are similar, as well as some general theory behind the constructions and WHY we are taking each step. I left her with half of her homework to complete on her own, as well as an additional construction to practice over again. We also discussed some study techniques and general studying behavior."
