Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I went over the subjunctive, when it's used, and how it's conjugated similar to usted commands. She will have a quiz on the subjunctive before our next tutoring session, so I promised to email her some practice problems. We reviewed Ud. and Uds. formal commands. We went over conjugation and I quizzed her verbally, including tu commands."
"On Sunday, we went over all of the grammar from the new chapter in preparation for the student's next chapter test. I quizzed him on Ud and Uds commands for ar, er, and ir verbs, as well as irregular verbs. We also talked about adjectives with -isimo and reviewed the vocabulary."
"We focused on the student's vocab list; it's a longer list than usual. We then went over some English-to-Spanish sentences and broke them down piece by piece. We also used his teacher's online flashcards and talked about memory devices he could use to remember the phrases. I assigned a few verbs to conjugate over the week, and he needs to come up with two sentences in Spanish starting with the phrase "I don't want... .""
"We covered reading and comprehension; exercises with the application of the imperfect from the reading; vocabulary and sentence construction; conjugation of the verbs found in the reading in present, preterit, and imperfect tenses, and written practice."
"The student has a quiz tomorrow on "por" and "para." We went over her homework and textbook examples. Then, I provided a 4-page worksheet that I put together with charts of the uses of each preposition. I also provided a link to an online quiz. We practiced using por and para in different sentences, and she made flashcards of our choices and the rationale."
"The student has a test on Wednesday, so we studied for this test. He had a review sheet that we filled out as a way to study. I helped him fill in the blank with the correct use of a term on one of the review sheets. I also helped him conjugate a given verb into its imperfect tense when given in a sentence. We created sentences using the imperfect tense in another review section. The last review section was over supplying the preterite tense of a verb in the preterite tense. He was going to study the review sheets after our session to prepare more for the test. I feel he is making progress and putting forth effort in practicing concepts discussed in our tutoring sessions."
